Windows Phone 8: First Impressions

I have used every version of Apple's iOS from 4-6. I have used Android Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice cream Sandwich, and Jellybean operating systems. In less then 24 hours of use on my new HTC Windows Phone 8x I am convinced that it is the most socially integrated mobile device on the market.

That is my opening statement :)

After seeing one of my classmates using a Windows Phone over a month ago, I began looking into the OS. Just my luck Microsoft was launching Windows Phone 8, and Nokia and HTC were coming out with two stellar phones using that OS. I decided that I would get a Windows Phone, and so I spent the next few weeks researching and here I am today with my new HTC Windows Phone. It does have some flaws, just as all OS's do.

Pros:
-Complete Facebook integration
-Text and fbook chat in the same windows similar to iMessage on iOS
-See Facebook and twitter updates on the contact itself
-Check-ins and posting to Facebook and Twitter are seamless and simple
-People (contacts)
-Grabs all your contacts from each source you give it, and links it all together
-Does a much better job at linking contacts then Android or HTC ever has done
-Polished User Interface
-Beats Audio (phone specific)
-Great looking phone

Cons:
-No VPN support (uses Direct Access which is a direct SSL connection)
-I haven't found a way to statically assign IP settings
-No detailed battery report (Android wins in this department)
-Lacking in app support for the moment

This is by no means a comprehensive list, however this is what I have found in the first 24 hours.

Sitting on the bus...

So I'm just sitting on the bus, letting it take me home. I am now off work for the next umm.... lots of days. I go back to work August 9! In the meantime I'll be in Texas. I lived in Texas for two years, and it was great. The scenery left much to be desired, but the people and culture I loved. After a year of being home I am going back. It will be swell!

On another note, this techno geek managed to find himself a girlfriend. She is amazing. I still don't know how it happened, but I'm glad it did :) Oh, for those of you not in the loop, my girlfriend is Kristi Dudley. Check out her blog.

Before I forget, time for the e3 update!
I watched the part of the Nintendo press conference I had no interest in, and nothing more. I've been busy. That's my report.

The Sims 3 is great! You should get it and play. Super fun.

I'm start school in the fall and in two years I will be a paid techno geek. Woot woot!

That is all for now.

Google+

Google has come out with it's own version of Facebook! It's called Google+. I've spent about 10 minutes looking at it, and I really like what I see. It is still in Beta testing so it is an invite only thing. As soon as I get invites I will start sending them out.

My first impressions are:
Clean
Simple
Facebook without annoying apps
Google is awesome

--------------------------

As for e3, I started watching the Nintendo press conference. The first 15 minutes were boring (but that's because it was all about Zelda, and I'm not a Zelda fan). Right now I'm at the part that is all about the Nintendo 3DS. I'm pretty excited about that. Might even go buy one myself. Still, I can't wait until Reggie starts talking about the new Wii.

Oh and I changed the name of my blog, as you can see.

Name Change!!

So I changed the name of my blog. I figured it was a bit more accurate as I have not really posted much about my life. Expect the name to change again as I still haven't decided what I want to call it...

Busy Busy

Well I still have not found time to review the footage from E3. However I think I'll download the videos and watch them on my lunch break. There is a new Wii coming out and Sony has a new handheld gaming system. I think it's called the Sony Vita. Not 100% sure though. Microsoft didn't seem to have anything all that exciting from the little I have read. More updates to come! (I hope)

Format troubles

I can't seem to find the big press conferences for e3 in a format my iPhone can understand. This is greatly hampering my ability to watch these amazing events. Here is a teaser for e3 on YouTube that will help explain why it's so awesome! If you don't know already that is.
